Summer Reading! It is very important to have your children read over the summer. They will be getting summer reading packets with the Governor's Reading Challenge information included. Don't forget to stop by your public library to pick up some great books! We are reading and discussing some great books and we are working on: Kindergarten: We are reading non-fiction books about lots of different kinds of animals and other subjects. It is amazing what they know about wildlife! They all know what an author does, what the title of a book is and what an illustrator is. They know the difference between fiction and non-fiction. First grade: We are all alphabetical order experts! It is a very important skill to know to use the library. Second grade: We are looking at The Caldecott Medal winners. We are evaluating the illustrations and having lots of great discussions. Third grade: We are practicing looking up books on the on-line catalog. We are on our way to being independent library users! Fourth grade: We have started our computer research projects on famous Connecticut people. Some of us have finished our PowerPoint presentations. I can't wait to see them all! The fourth graders voted on their favorite Nutmeg Nominee last month. The winner was Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper. Mari, Keera, Bennett, Thomas and Kristen have read 9 books and completed all of the crossword puzzles! Way to go fourth graders! We had a great pizza lunch!
